RESCUED FROM THE Downey, Los Angeles ANIMAL SHELTER
Billy is a 4-month-old, mixed breed puppy who has a congenital heart defect as well as a fractured pelvis and torn ligament in his leg from being hit by a car.
We brought Billy to a cardiologist, and according to the ultrasound, Billy's pulmonic valve leaflets have fused and the narrowed opening is forcing the other areas of his heart to overcompensate in order to circulate the blood through his whole body.
The cardiologist suggested performing a balloon angioplasty in order to open up the fused area of the heart and keep it open. However, because Billy is so young, there's a chance that he hasn't finished growing yet. So if they put the balloon in now, but Billy keeps growing, the balloon may still be too small to compensate for the necessary blood flow, and Billy would need a second surgery to replace the too small balloon with one of the correct size.
We have a follow-up consultation with a cardiologist surgeon in a few weeks, and we'll hopefully have Billy scheduled for surgery after that appointment. But, whether that surgery will be a few weeks or months from now depends on what the cardiologist thinks is best for Billy.
This doesn’t even factor in his possible orthopedic needs, like knee surgery or physical therapy.
We are accepting adoption applications for Billy, but because of his on-going medical issues, we are primarily only considering adopters local to the Los Angeles area.
We rely 100% on all of our support in the form of small donations. We run on $5 donations and volunteers! Please consider donating just $5 so we can get on top of our mounting medical bills and rescue more dogs in need!
