Rudy was brought to the shelter by Animal Control. He was dirty, his coat was covered in mud, he could barely walk AND he had tire marks on his head. He was on stray hold when we transported him to the VCA West LA animal hospital and we legally could not treat him until his stray hold expired. Stray Holds allow for owners of lost animals enough time to claim their animals. Rudy had 4 more days to wait until he could receive surgery. Meanwhile we cultured his compound fracture for infection while we waited and put him on strong pain meds. We kind of knew his former owners would not claim him, knowing he would need orthopedic surgery.

We rely 100% on donations from animal lovers everywhere! If you feel inclined to donate towards Rudy's surgery help us with his medical bills, we would appreciate it very much. Donate $5 towards Rudy to help him get better - quicker!

What we know about Rudy so far:

  • Good with other dogs
  • Needs training
  • HIGH ENERGY
  • Would be good with kids who are taught doggy manners
  • His cast is off and he is continuing his physical therapy

Rudy's surgery involved pins and a metal plate ( see video) His fracture splintered his bone and the plate will keep the bone from splintering more.

We will take applications for him now, but know that his treatment is not over. He will need physical therapy to keep his muscles from atrophy. Please read our process if you are interested in adoption:

We always need responsible, flexible, and temporary foster homes in the Los Angeles / Ventura County area. Fostering is a rewarding experience and puts you front and center in our dogs' rescue story! You can help us prepare our dogs for their forever homes (this includes potty training, basic obedience, and lots of interaction and love!) Read more about fostering below!
