Introducing BABY DINO (born approximately late April?) - just a wee tiny puppy dog! His owners turned him in to the shelter for biting their children, but guess what we discovered? Dino is fearful of his ears being pulled and pinched and we think someone used to mishandle him. We are working on positive reinforcement where we gently pet his ear and give him a treat and repeat over and over. In the two weeks we've had him, he has changed dramatically and is SO much more trusting around his ears.  We are not going to be adopting him out to anyone with children though, better to be safe and just put him in an adult only home with someone who is gentle and can continue positive reinforcement training with him. True to the Cocker breed, Dino has a Cherry Eye now popping out of his left eye.  This can wait until he is old enough to get neutered and be fixed at the same time. Check out his short VIDEO.   Adoption donation will be waived (because of his Cherry Eye) but there will be a fully refundable deposit of $500 to be reimbursed once you neuter and get his Cherry Eye fixed.  This is to ensure he gets into the hands of responsible adopters who will follow through on his surgery.

Introducing INDIANA BONES - our new one to two year old happy English Cocker boy.  He is affectionate and friendly with everyone he meets. He loves people, children and other dogs. When we first rescued him, he had two huge stitches on his lower back and the shelter told us they thought he had been hit by a car? We had him x-rayed just to be sure he is okay and his x-rays looked great. His fur is starting to grow in on his lower back and the way he runs around and is peppy with the other dogs, you would never know he was ever injured. This is a pretty special youngster and we would love to find him a home with someone who is active and can give him the daily exercise and stimulation that a young dog needs.  We are hoping to find adopters who know the English Cocker breed and whom may even be willing to take him to agility.  He has so much potential to become remarkable and we would like to place him in a home that can really spend the time to bring out the best of the English Cocker breed in him. He will need to live in a home with a large backyard to run in and also would do best if he had other dogs to play with and someone who is not going to be gone extended hours.  Check out Indiana's short VIDEO from the day we rescued him. And also his new VIDEO #2 of him after recovering from his wounds.   Adoption donation $300

Introducing NEWTON - the seven month old puppy boy who has the softest fur ever and the delicious smell of puppy breath. This boy is so sweet and playful and has a bright future ahead of him. He needs a home with a lot of activity and stimulation at this young age, maybe even some doggie friends to play with.  A baby puppy this young has so much potential, he is like a clean slate and we want to be sure to place him in a home that can not only take him to puppy classes, but also provide him with a lot more time that puppies his age require to grow up to be balanced and healthy and happy dogs!  Check out Newton's short VIDEO.   Adoption donation $350

Introducing MURRAY - the sad little Cocker boy who was saved hours before the shelter was going to put him to sleep. The shelter had him listed as a three year old but he may be up to four or five (it is always a guessing game). This poor fella has been through so much already. He is currently trying to get rid of Demodex (caused by a low immune system). You can see the hair loss right around both of his eyes - this should grow back with time. He had those really badly infected Cocker ears when we got him. He is going to need a Cocker experienced home who can keep up on keeping his ears cleaned out on an ongoing basis. But just looking at his beautiful Black & White coloring, it is clear that one day he is going to become a stunning looking dog from some lucky person!  Adoption donation tbd

Introducing MAXWELL, LACEY AND CHESTER! Three skinny minnies who need a better home the next time around. Check out their VIDEO to see more about their story. Maxwell is the outgoing happy boy who just craves affection, has to have his paw on you, looking up at you for your approval. Lacey is a little more shy but she loves to be held and she hugs her paws to you like she is clinging on for life.
Shy boy Chester is the most timid and really needs some gentleness and kindness. We would love to find a home for Chester and Maxwell as a pair, as Chester is so shy that he won't do anything unless Maxwell is with him.  He won't even go for a walk without Maxwell.  We wonder if Maxwell is the dad and Chester is the son?   Adoption donation is $275 each, reduced if you adopt a pair

Our Adoption process begins with an online adoption application. Camp Cocker does adoptions all over the state of California. We drive the dogs to you (a home safety check is an important part of the adoption process). When we get new dogs in, we make them available first to adopters whom already have their applications in.  We thank you in advance for being patient with our thorough adoption process.

Introducing SNICKERDOODLE - the three year old petite Cocker boy. He gets very happy to see people and does a little happy dance.  He loves going for long walks and is very active and would do well with a big backyard and other dogs to play with.  He loves people and is very affectionate, if you sit on the floor he will put his paws on your shoulders and lick your face, LOL! He craves human approval and just wants to be loved and accepted.  When we first got Snickerdoodle out of the shelter, he was so matted that we had to shave him down.  But he looks cute with his new puppy cut!  Snickerdoodle had Cherry Eye surgery on his right eye and it is halfway back out again.  We would like to wait to see whom adopts him to make a decision together when to put him through a second surgery.  Check out Snickerdoodle's short VIDEO.   Adoption donation $275

Introducing MICHELLE - the beautiful five to six year old Cocker Spaniel girl. Michelle is very much a dog who craves being around her people, she will follow you from room to room and is always looking up to you for your approval. Her most favorite thing (next to being with you) is to carry her toys around in her mouth. Michelle is not dog friendly and we believe she may not have been properly socialized by whomever had her as a puppy. She gets possessive over her toys and her space and she absolutely needs to be the only dog in the home. If you sit down on the floor, she gets so happy and takes a running leap into your lap and nestles her head into you. She literally won't move for as long as you are willing to sit there and pet her. She just craves human affection and would do best in a home where someone is around a lot - perhaps someone whom either works from home or is retired? Michelle just got Cherry Eye surgery on her left eye on 7/3/08 and it is healing nicely.  Michelle does have a cataract on her left eye but full vision in her right eye and she seems to do fine.  When we rescued her, she was a bit chubbier and with some nice walks and exercise and good nutrition, you should be able to get her fit and in tip top shape in no time!  She doesn't really love going for too long of a walk but if you can build up her endurance over time, it would be really good for her (we rescued her from a situation where she had been living tied up on a rope for two years, so understandably her cardio fitness level was way down when we got her)  Check out Michelle's VIDEO. Adoption donation tbd.

Introducing TOPPER - the fluffy boy that we don't know what he is mixed with. Could he be a bichon-poo?  a cockapoo? A maltipoo? Your guess is as good as ours - all we know he is a cutie-poo for sure! Topper needs to find a home with no children as he can be skittish. He also prefers females much more so than men (we wonder if he has had some bad experiences with men in his past?) - men make him very nervous and until someone can do some work with him and a dog trainer - it probably is best that he go to a female only home. He bonds very quickly to women. Ideally, an adult only home with someone who can make a commitment to working with him and a dog trainer - to address his issues of fear with men and also his alpha issues in the home (he wants to be the top dog in homes with other dogs). Topper is maybe only two to three years old and he is very smart and we think he has a lot of potential. We also learned that Topper is quite the escape artist and will figure out how to get out of a backyard. So we are recommending either a yard with really high fencing or else a home where he is indoors most of the time (like a condo or apartment). He is housetrained and loves to go on walks - he is not too keen on using a doggie door and much prefers being walked on leash. His indoor behavior is very calm and his favorite thing to do is to find the back of a couch to lay on (like a cat, LOL!). Topper just got shaved down (his hair was so matted that we couldn't brush it out) - so these pictures are his before and after. His hair will grow back and one day with good grooming, he will be a gorgeous little boy! Check out Topper's short VIDEO and you will fall in love!   Adoption donation $275

Meet sweetie pie ARCHIE with the elegantly handsome face. He is seven to eight years old and is such a friendly and happy boy that we can't imagine why his owners ever gave him up! (their complaint was that he was "too old" but we all know that Cockers can live up to sixteen years old)  It may have been because he has a cataract in his right eye, but his left eye works great and his attitude is so positive, it doesn't hinder him a bit! Archie is such a lovable and trusting boy that he will go up to anyone who is willing to offer him a kind word and a pat on the head. He is waiting and hoping for someone special to come along who will open up their home and their heart to him. Are you that someone special for Archie? Watch his short VIDEO to see his handsome face and soulful eyes!  Adoption donation tbd

Hi…………. My name is Benny! Let me tell you about me. First, I could be the best thing that ever happened to you. It’s true I may be a bit older and I don’t see so good. I have this tail………It wags faster than a hummingbird wing. At the slightest sound of your voice it takes off. Really, I could be the best thing that ever happened to you. When I came to my foster home I got really sick but with just a little help I got past all that because I’m a special little boy. My favorite place is the kitchen. I love to help, however, I can. Ask yourself this……do you feel lucky today………I’m the best bet to make your day. With love, your friend . . . Benny.

DUKE is our five to six year old buff Cocker boy. Duke loves to play tennis ball and also loves to play tug toy - but his most favorite thing of all time is to on a long walk, he gets so happy when he sees his leash come out!   Duke is sensitive in regards to strangers handling him or picking him up and he also does not like his paws handled. For this reason Duke needs to be placed in a dog experienced home with no children.  We feel that Duke has the potential to make a great dog with someone who can give him the time that he needs.  He is very introverted at first and really needs someone patient and not get too handsy with him until he can build up trust. Once he comes out of his shy shell with you, it is so rewarding! He is housetrained to use a doggie door and is dog friendly (he really thrives with the company of other dogs).  The special kind of adopter for Duke, is going to be someone willing to just let him be - so he can come around as he is ready.  It took him four months with us before we could pick him up and cuddle him (like in the picture on the right).  We think that cuddling is something new to Duke and that possibly he may not have experienced very much human affection in the past.  It is like he is learning a foreign language and he is only just now learning how to enjoy being touched.  Check out Duke's short VIDEO #1 or his newest VIDEO #2 . Introducing BEETHOVEN - the little senior man who is waiting and dreaming of someone to come along to love him. He has a fatty tumor on his chest, chronic ear infections and bad skin from a lifetime of neglect and poor nutrition. His owners turned him in at the shelter after dipping him in motor oil (they thought is would kill fleas). We would love to find Beethoven a nice home with someone who can care for him and his ongoing ear infections and give him an abundance of love for his remaining golden years. He is a sweet boy and deserves to know love for the first time in his life. Check out Beethoven's short VIDEO to see what a happy little fella he is!   Beethoven is currently in a foster home where his foster guardians say he is a "knucklehead" in only the most hilarious way! He is so full of energy and character!  Adoption donation tbd

Meet BENNY our sweet senior boy who has limited vision (we first thought he was blind, but he sees shadows and gets around fairly well). He will hold up his little paw for you to ask for your affection and he is friendly with other dogs. Is there a remarkable person out there who would be willing to open up your heart and your home to an older doggie like Benny? He sure has been disappointed by his former owners and really so deserving of a second chance. Anyone who has taken in a senior dog can tell you how rewarding an experience it can be to know that you have literally given a dog the best years of his entire life! Check out Benny's short VIDEO of how we first met him. Adoption donation tbd.

Introducing LOLA (this is a courtesy listing for our wonderful vet, Dr. Sindy Habib at Best Friends Anima Hospital).  Lola is a sweet one and a half year old Kissy-bull girl! Lola has a sad story . . . someone found her after she was dragged from a truck for several blocks and brought her in to our vet. They have been treating her medically and she has been getting lots of love and nurturing from the staff there. (Lola's leg was amputated on 1/21/08) She is waiting and dreaming of someone special to come along to love her, even though she walks on three legs. She will greet you with a wagging tail and kiss your face all over, if you will let her! We know she's not a cocker, but how could we resist her trusting little face?  Check out Lola's VIDEO to see what a doll she is! Adoption donation TBD.

Bentley is only available for adoption in the Los Angeles area. Introducing BENTLEY - the Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel mix boy who is just a total love bug of a puppy. We think he is barely a year old (he still is going through his puppy chewing stage, you will have to keep all of your shoes off the floor and puppy proof your home, LOL!). Bentley is dog friendly and energetic and loves to wrestle and play with the other dogs. When we rescued him, he did not have the use of one leg and after two months of accupunture, he is now able to stand on it and put weight on it. Bentley's vet says that amputation is highly unlikely and that the more we can get him to walk on the leg, the higher the chance that he can get strong again and get those muscles working more and more. We don't know what happened to him before he came into our rescue group, but he has such a kind and happy spirit, we are just happy for the opportunity to work on rehabilitating him and finding him someone to love.   Bentley would do best in a home with another energetic dog to play with all day and a large fenced in yard, add some kids and he would be in heaven with so many opportunities for playtime.  Adoption donation $275

Meet CINNAMON - the Golden Retriever/Cocker Spaniel boy! Cinnamon is a little shy and timid upon first meeting him, but then he quickly warms up to new people and will greet you with giving you kisses on your face and cuddling in to you. Awwww! We just took Cinnamon to a dog park for the first time and he was very social, but we discovered that he does not like to share his home with another dog, nor does he want to share his human with another dog. So he may need to be the only child unless a dog trainer can get involved to help work with him. We always wonder with rescue dogs if perhaps they have never had much human affection and now suddenly are offered someone to love them, that could be the reason they don't want to share? Check out Cinnamon's short VIDEO   Adoption donation $275

Adoption pending!   Yaay for Ernie!!! Meet ERNIE - our new cutie pie one to two year old boy. We don't think he looks like he is much of a Cocker but he has the adorable underbite of a Pekinese and the coloring and squishy cute face of King Charles. He is a sweet gentle boy and all he wants is someone to love and make him their very own forever doggie.  We discovered that Ernie gets car sick and also needs to be walked on a harness so that he doesn't escape when out on walks.  Check out Ernie's short VIDEO and you will see the special dog that we see. Adoption donation $275.

Adoption pending! Yippee for Baby Monica!  Introducing BABY MONICA - the seven to eight month old Cocker puppy girl who was born with an extra vertabrae. She will need a home where she will be prevented from jumping off of high furniture and also in a home where there are no small toddlers to handle her roughly. She is making some progress on her potty training but she is just a baby and still learning. We have affectionately nick-named her Miss Pee Pee Bottom because she gets so excited to meet new people that when they pet her she involuntarily squirts a little pee pee out. We think with some confidence building and time that she may eventually out grow this. The best way to have new people meet her is to take her outside and let them pet her there. A dog trainer made a suggestion that when anyone comes into the home, have them ignore her for ten minutes, so she has a chance to calm down from being so happy to see them. Check out Baby Monica's short VIDEO and you will see what a precious little girl she is! Adoption donation $350

If you are interested in meeting or possibly adopting any of our Cocker Spaniels, please fill out an Adoption Application at the upper right hand side. Thank you for supporting animal rescue! We WOOF you!

We are one hundred percent supported by donations and on average, we spend between $500 - $750 on each dog we rescue (medical bills & boarding are our biggest expenses). About once or twice a month, we will get a dog that needs expensive surgery so we are always in need of donations. We are always operating in the red so please pass the word for us that we need donations. Also, what a great gift for someone who has everything . . . make a donation in their honor and we will send an acknowlegement card on your behalf.

Or if you prefer to donate by check, please make it out to Katrina Dog Rescue (c/o Cathy Stanley) 14320 Ventura Blvd., #236 Sherman Oaks, CA 91423
To see an example of how much a Medical Rehab dog can cost, please check out one of our most favorite rehab doggies, MURPHY and his sad little story at: MURPHY's WEBPAGE. Camp Cocker is a Los Angeles based Cocker Spaniel Animal Rescue Organization that adopts out dogs all over the state of California. Most of our adopters live either in the Sacramento, San Jose or San Francisco area and we do monthly mobile adoptions where we drive the dogs to the adopters. We rescue Cocker Spaniels from high kill shelters in Los Angeles County and at times the surrounding counties of Kern County, Orange County, Riverside County, Kings County, San Bernardino County and Ventura County. We encourage anyone who is considering getting a Cocker Spaniel as a pet to please adopt, don't buy. There are so many gorgeous and very worthy Cockers in shelters and if we don't have a dog that you might enjoy, please check out the many other Cocker Spaniel rescue groups that are all over Southern California. Thank you so much for supporting animal rescue and for giving a rescue dog a second chance!
