bye bye Carl . . . we never knew you but we would have loved you

Oh boy . . . this is not fun, not fun at all. We don't like to expose the dark underbelly of the horrors of what goes on in our animal shelters. But this has been a situation we must bring to light, if only to ask for help. The kind of help that we can't do ourselves.

We ask any of you whom are not in an emotional place to be able to handle this, please stop now. Do not go further. You may have noticed we didn't update our website all day on Tuesday. It was because we were dealing with this situation below.

After much heart ache, we have decided to make this information public. We don't know if anyone out there wants to get involved or do something. But this situation is bigger than anything little Camp Cocker can ever do. Please be warned if you proceed to read below, you will be sad, you may get angry, but you may know of someone or be able to assemble a team of people to get together and do something about this. So sorry to share this with you - I like to keep it happy and upbeat here. Oh SIGH! With heavy heart . . . here ya go:

Los Angeles Department of Animal Control continues to be run with corruption and the animals pay the price. (warning: NOT appropriate for children!)

How do you call something like this? Where do you find the words? This story should have had a happy ending - the dogs were found in time and should have been nursed back to health. They did their job, so why couldn’t we?
I can't bear to look into Carls' eyes. So much sadness.... I am glad you are in a good place now, with no pain or sickness and maybe one day you will find in your heart to forgive the ignorance and apathy of two-legged creatures who surrounded you in your last days.

This is one of the saddest things I have ever heard of. These poor dogs, starving and with no water? Surely someone would come by or call within a two week period of time, or maybe it was longer than that! How could a quardriplegic manage without help? Her service dog, then was her main support, and wasn't given any help when found? No vet help and just taken off by animal control? This is beyond tragic. What happened to this lady? I just don't understand all this. I know I will be thinking about this woman and her dogs for a very long time. What about the other dog?

A very sad story. Didn't the paralyzed woman have anybody who would check on her on a regular basis? How long has she suffered? This is so tragic. Her dogs stayed loyal to her until the end. I hope the dog that survived found a good home.
