Go, Dr. Birr, GO!
Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 07:50PM
Please sponsor our veterinarian, Dr. Lori Birr Lauver, as she competes in the Wildflower Triathlon in Paso Robles, CA on May 1st, 2011. She is entering with her entire family, to raise donations for Camp Cocker Rescue.
The Olympic Distance Triathlon is a challenging course that Dr. Birr has been training for over the last five months. The course starts with a .93 mile swim (1.5k). Next is a 24.8 mile bike course (40k) which will be both on and off paved roads. Ending with the running section of the course, which is 6.2 miles (10k) of a combination of road and trails through campgrounds and challenging hills.
Dr. Birr is one of the vets that Camp Cocker works with here in Los Angeles. She helps us to rehabilitate many of the dogs that we rescue out of shelters. She has done heroic things in the past, such as saving the life of a dog that had opened up her spay stitches and pulled out her own intestines. Most vets would not have been up for the challenge but Dr. Birr is not like most vets. She is our hero in more ways than we can put into words.
Please help us to say thank you to Dr. Birr by supporting her in her first Triathlon challenge! Please sponsor her in any amount and all of the funds raised will go directly towards the dogs below whom are waiting for surgery.
Camp Cocker Rescue operates under the 501c3 of Katrina Dog Rescue, Tax ID #20-8687566. Katrina Dog Rescue was inspired by and formed shortly after Cathy returned from volunteering in New Orleans. Since then, we focused in on a single breed (inspired by Katrina Muffin, a blind cocker rescued from Hurricane Katrina), hence how the Camp Cocker name came about.
Or if you prefer to donate by check, please make it out to Katrina Dog Rescue, 14320 Ventura Blvd., #236 Sherman Oaks, CA 91423 (please be sure to write GO DR. BIRR GO! somewhere in the check memo)
We have several dogs on the waiting list for medical and the dogs that will benefit first from the Go Dr. Birr Go fundraiser, will be Taylor and Meghan who both need a second ear surgery. Dr. Birr has done their left ear and once we raise the funds, she will be doing their right ear (ear ablation surgeries).
