Atom’s Story:

Gentle Atom was rescued in South Korea and traveled to America as one of our Freedom Flyers in January 2021. Between 3-5 years of age, he has the nicest, sweetest temperament ever. Atom was flown to Los Angeles, CA with another rescued dog, named Shane, and arrived here eager to make friends and explore his new surroundings. Unfortunately, Atom tested positive for heartworm.

Heartworm is a common problem in shelters today. Due to Korea's geography and weather patterns, it is more prevalent there than it is here in Southern California, but cases have been reported in nearly every part of the world. The worms are spread through the bite of an infected mosquito and make their way to the heart, pulmonary artery, and adjacent large blood vessels of infected dogs. The good news is that most dogs can be successfully treated and go on to live long, healthy lives!

Now named Felix, this sweet boy was adopted by incredibly loving parents who were happy to provide a quiet atmosphere for their new family member while he completed his heartworm treatment. Felix really is special dog with a wonderfully charming demeanor. It’s no wonder that they fell in love with him instantly.
