Barney’s Story:

This sweet older gentleman was rescued from the South Los Angeles Shelter in July 2020. He was about ten years old and was already completely blind from his severe, untreated glaucoma in both of his eyes. Shortly after his rescue, Barney had double enucleation surgery (removal of both of his eyes) to relieve the pressure and pain that he was experiencing. He can finally be comfortable now! Barney also had awful skin, mostly from his matted and uncared-for fur. This poor cocker spaniel had clearly been neglected for many years. After frequent medicated baths, his skin has returned to normal and he is growing a healthy coat again.

He’s chosen his own special spot inside the house, but Barney really loves the outdoors! He enjoys going on walks and being out in the fresh air, sniffing the day away. How perfect for him that his new family has a nice yard for him to hang out in and explore to his heart’s content. His family also walk him twice a day with a wooden stick as his guide, and boy does he get excited when he hears that stick! His family tell us he is super sweet & smart, and even though he’s blind he likes to race up the stairs to greet them! Barney also has two other dogs in the home, Luckee & Watson, who seem to be tolerating their new brother without complaint. He’s gained some necessary weight and now has a clean bill of health!
