Bertha

Adopted NOVEMBER 2023!

Bertha’s Story:

Bertha is a beautiful English bulldog rescued from the North Central animal shelter in August 2023. She had allegedly been found roaming the streets alone, and she was so depressed. This poor girl had pus and blood coming from her vaginal area and she was lethargic and not eating. It turned out that Bertha had a massive mammary tumor and Pyometra, a life-threatening bacterial infection of the uterus, and needed emergency surgery. Our vet removed Bertha’s mass, as well as her uterus, and informed us that there were multiple ablations on the walls of her uterus - evidence of multiple c-sections. He didn’t think she could have survived one more c-section because the tissue was so damaged. We don't believe Bertha was someone's much loved pet, or they would not have been breeding her or allowed her eggplant-sized mammary tumor to go without medical attention. A biopsy of the mass did come back as cancer and we are so relieved to have it removed so that Bertha can enjoy the life she deserves! Along with her dental, Bertha later had surgery for entropion, a common eye issue where the eyelashes are facing inward and scratching the eyes. At 5-7 years of age, this amazing girl has such a good attitude.

Bertha’s foster family fell so in love with her that they decided to become her forever family, and Bertha (aka Miss Moo) is loving being part of her new pack! This hilarious lady snores very loudly when she sleeps and her little tongue is always poking out. She loves to sleep and her mom jokes that bulldogs are like sloths. Weighing in at 55 pounds, Bertha can move pretty quickly when she wants to, like when she’s playing fetch or running for treats! She enjoys taking walks with her family and really loves getting attention. This precious girl is always making sure everyone gets plenty of snuggle time with her.
