Freedom Flight PUPPY MILL RESCUE!!

** ARRIVAL 11/20/22 ** - - - - - *** bonnie HAS BEEN ADOPTED!!! ***

WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE BONNIE!

Meet FREEDOM FLYER BONNIE - one of the eleven Cocker Spaniels who were rescued from a puppy mill.

Camp Cocker Rescue was contacted by KDS, a rescue organization in South Korea, asking us if we might be able to take eleven cocker spaniels that they rescued from a puppy mill closure. There were twenty seven dogs in total, and we of course said YES!

These dogs were living in cruel conditions and sadly, the breeder had debarked them all. 💔💔💔

The eleven dogs that Camp Cocker is taking in have booked their flights and are arriving here in Los Angeles in small groups - beginning the weekend before Thanksgiving.

Bonnie arrived in Los Angeles on 11/20/22. She is estimated to be 8-10 years old, is spayed, vaccinated, and weighs 19 pounds. Her rescuers describe her as friendly with dogs & people, sweet & loving, and with a moderate energy level.

Bonnie has been vetted by our local vet, and has tested negative for heartworm.

NEW UPDATE (1/7/23):

Bonnie is a cuddly, playful, silly little girl. She LOVES to play with her ball, and is obsessed with her lamb, duck and llama toys. She’s very curious - she’ll smell anything and everything around. Everyone she meets thinks Bonnie is a puppy - we think it's because she has such a young spirit (and the puppy cut takes a few years off the face 😉).

Bonnie is getting very good at playing fetch; she likes to let you almost grab her ball from the ground, before quickly pushing it under the couch with her nose. We have vinyl floors, so she slips and slides when chasing her ball. It’s like the old cartoons when a character tries to take off running! She’ll let you know she’s ready to play by staring directly at whichever toy she’s chosen, and not moving until you throw it for her. Usually, it's one just barely out of your reach.

She has an affinity for cardboard and paper/books, so we try to break down and recycle boxes shortly after we get them, and move books of interest of out of reach. Oddly it's not all books - she chewed up the corner of a couple comic books, but has left most others alone.

She is very fond of going potty on the sidewalk right now, but is warming up to going on the grass. She’s had some accidents in the house, but is getting better at getting our attention when she needs to go out. It’s very subtle, but is becoming more obvious as time goes on.

Like most dogs, Bonnie loves peanut butter - especially when we freeze small amounts in an ice cube tray and let her suck on them. She also loves chew sticks, freeze dried chicken treats, and salmon flavored jerky treats.

Bonnie does bark occasionally, but because she was (sadly) de-barked, it sounds more like a whisper bark. She’s friendly with 99% of the other dogs we see on walks, letting them smell her and being very curious. She’s usually very polite, but occasionally we run into another 4-legged friend that she decides to bark at. She’s not mean or aggressive, just eccentric and excited.

She sleeps pretty well, always in her crate, and will bark in the morning when she needs to go out. Most days it’s around 8am, but sometimes she’ll let us sleep a little later. Occasionally, she'll let you know she isn't quite ready for bed by barking in her crate. Usually that just means she needs an extra 5 minutes to play before she goes to sleep.

Bonnie is being fostered in the Los Angeles area.
