COOKIE was rescued on a late Wednesday afternoon, June 21, from the Los Angeles North Central Animal Shelter - with five male puppies in tow!

The call was urgent:

“This mama and her babies came to us on June 19th, when we received a call for a dog and babies under a dumpster behind the dental office. One of our officers went out and got the whole family!”

“Since being with us, mama (Cookie) has been keeping a close eye on her babies, and taking real good care of them! But the shelter is not the place to house teeny little bebes or a new mama dog. Let's get this small little fluffy family OUT of the shelter!!”

Camp Cocker answered the urgent call, and was on the way immediately! Mama and babies were taken directly to our vet for thorough exams.

The shelter told us that Cookie is a Maltese mix. We’re wondering if she’s perhaps a Morkie (Maltese-Morkie mix)? They added that she’s a “good mama!"

What we’ve learned about Cookie in the time that we've had her is that she seeks human affection & interaction. She is a people-friendly lap dog & she’s dog-friendly. (We've not had a chance to introduce her to any cats.) Her age is estimated* to be 2-3 years old, and she currently weighs 11 pounds.

We’re pleased to report that Cookie is house-trained!
