WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE, DOUGAL!
Dougal is a sweet, lovable senior Cocker Spaniel. He was rescued from the LA County Carson Shelter on January 2, 2024, our first shelter dog rescue of 2024,
Dougal was frail with pancreatitis and pneumonia. 💔
After his pancreatitis and chest x-rays cleared, he had to gain weight before going under anesthesia for his dental.
His mouth had been so painful from rotted teeth, one tooth was hanging out when we rescued him and then fell out on its own, with roots showing. Ouch!
He’s been getting Just Food For Dogs, Chicken and Rice formula and he is fed multiple times throughout the day in an attempt to have him gain weight. He has been slowly gaining weight and muscle mass, he has now gained six pounds whoo hoo!
Dougal finally became healthy enough for dental cleaning and extractions, as well as entropion surgery. His eyes are so much more comfortable now!
He still has a chronic dry cough and when the vet did Dougal’s dental last month, a new diagnosis was discovered.
Dougal has Laryngeal Paralysis which means he has a permanent cough and can be prone to future bouts of aspiration pneumonia.
He has been going to the vet for acupuncture, ozone therapy and laser therapy. He is also on multiple supplements to support his body. He loooooooves the delicious Just Food For Dogs. We’re quite sure that Dougal never had good-tasting food before!
Dougal has been getting “the gold star treatment” over the past four months, financed by Camp Cocker, and facilitated by his tireless & loving foster family. His spirit has evolved - from seeming hopeless to loving what every new day brings!
In a nutshell, here is all of the good news about Dougal:
He is an ideal weight at 32 pounds and has gained muscle mass
No more pancreatitis
His entropion surgery was successful & no further eye issues
He's doing really well on Chinese herbs for Laryngeal Paralysis since LP is most likely neuro-muscular
His dental is complete
His personality is adventurous and curious.
He loves to inspect gopher mounds and almost caught a mole
He is great with his foster sibling Molly
He is very affectionate and loves to be touched
He is 100% potty trained
He is a quiet dog
Dougal is a senior but he is still dreaming of a forever home with adopters who are willing and able to continue the high-quality care that has changed his life!
If you’d like to support Dougal by providing him with a yummy low-fat meal or two, you can do that RIGHT HERE!
