Gia’s Story:

Grandma Gia was rescued from the Downey Los Angeles County Animal Shelter in February 2020. She was at least thirteen years old, was already blind and deaf and needed urgent hospitalization for pneumonia. She also had to have ten teeth extracted. Once she recovered, though, Gia turned out to be a rather healthy dog. We were disappointed to find out that her cataracts were non-operable, but we also understand that blind dogs tend to adapt really well. Dogs use their amazing sense of smell to get around and Gia has a top notch sniffer!

Gia struggled to find a forever home because of her age and blindness. We dreamed of someone special coming along to see the value and beauty of a senior dog, and she finally found her special person. Gia is like an adorable, favorite grandma; an independent and perky little lady who just needs lots of sleep and a little extra help. She is accustomed to her ear cleanings and twice-daily eye drops, and she is always ready and waiting ten minutes before mealtime. She likes to do a happy dance as her bowl of food is brought to her.

Gentle Gia loves being close to her human and the smile on her adopter's face is just priceless. This is what we live for!
