Juniper

Adopted July 2023!

Juniper’s Story:

In June of 2023, the San Diego Humane Society contacted Camp Cocker Rescue to ask if we would take a cocker spaniel that was having a medical crisis. Juniper was only one year old - just a baby! She had been surrendered to the shelter by her owners, who said they could not afford to care for her. Juniper was very sick and her bloodwork showed that she was having an Addison's disease crisis. We took her directly to a specialty hospital with an internal medicine department, where they did an EKG on her heart because her hormone levels were putting her at a risk for heart failure. During her stay, she received I.V. fluids, ultrasound, careful monitoring of her blood pressure, and medications needed to balance her system & begin her return to health. It was so scary, but we were cautiously optimistic that Juniper would be alright.

She survived her ordeal, but young Juniper required proactive adopters who would vigilantly monitor her behavior to prevent any future episodes. An Addison's dog can have a normal lifespan and do most activities, but they must be carefully managed because having Addison’s means that their adrenal glands don't function normally.

Juniper settled right in with her awesome new family, who could hardly wait to get her home. Their other dog, Lucy, has been taking the big sister role very seriously by showing her the ropes! The two dogs are just adorable together. Juniper loves to play, cuddle, and hang out in the garden smelling all the flowers! Her DNA test revealed that she is 90% American Cocker Spaniel.

From Juniper’s adopters: “We are just so thrilled to have her in our lives!
