WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE LUCAS!
We just picked up Lucas from the Long Beach Shelter (4/8/23) and are on our way to the vet. Lucas appears to have plenty of energy & affection to share!
Lucas is a *very sweet* Cocker Spaniel senior. He was seen by our vet on 4/11. He’s estimated* to be 9-11 years old, and currently weighs 31 pounds. He had a dental with no extractions, and he had the small mass on the top of his head removed and biopsied. We’re currently awaiting the results of the biopsy.
MEDICAL UPDATE 4/19/23: Lucas had the neoplasm on the top of his head excised and biopsied last week. The results are in, and it’s very good news! The neoplasm was a sebaceous epithelioma - similar biologically to basal cell carcinoma and considered to be a low grade malignancy. While they can be locally aggressive, they rarely metastasize. The best news of all is that the mass was fully removed with clean margins, 🎉🎉
FOSTER UPDATE 5/16/23: Lucas loves children! Today we walked past a family sitting out on their front lawn and he was surrounded by their four kids, maybe ages 1-9? He couldn’t get enough. His tail was wagging like crazy and he was so sweet with them.
FOSTER UPDATES 4/19/23:
Lucas is very sweet and loves getting attention, pets, and belly rubs.
His tail is always wagging!
He follows me anywhere I go and will nap next to my feet or lay down supervising me when I'm in the kitchen.
He loves the cat and is very interested in her actions; gentle and sweet.
Absolutely no aggression, even when my senior dog yells at him... he simply acts aloof and walks away ignoring her.
He occasionally growls or barks when he sees someone pass by our front window, but it's minor and he quiets right down when I touch him.
He eats well and likes treats. Whines for food if I'm eating. He may have been used to getting human food, which could explain his weight.
He likes to drink a lot of water, but seems to be gulping less frequently and, therefore, has fewer wet diapers. Not HT, but getting better!
Pretty good on leash, but pulls some. Always potties outside.
Will eventually tolerate being in the crate overnight after some whining and intermittent barking, but does fine sleeping on the floor next to my bed. He doesn't have potty accidents overnight.
Lucas likes to play with stuffed toys and play fetch! He enjoys knocking over the toy box and dragging the toys out.
He's also very interested in trash and won't hesitate to grab a wrapper or tissue to eat or knock over the bathroom trash to knock the lid off. He likes to chew on paper and my crochet yarn.
He's hearing impaired. He can hear loud clapping and is recently responding more to my voice and other sounds, maybe because his ear meds are working! He had more meds put in both ears for infections yesterday at the vet and they've been looking much more pink and less gunky.
*Please note that any age provided is only an estimate, based on veterinary examination.
Lucas is being fostered in the Los Angeles area
