Lucas

Adopted JUNE 2023!

Lucas’s Story:

At around ten years of age, this amazingly sweet cocker spaniel found himself at the Long Beach animal shelter. He’d been badly neglected and his ears were in terrible shape. When we first rescued Lucas in April 2023, we thought he might be completely deaf and would likely need ear ablation surgery. After he was treated for ear infections in both ears, however, we found out that he could actually hear a little! This silly boy is very curious and likes to investigate everything he can, including sticking his head into trash cans, chewing on boxes, and unraveling toilet paper off of the roll. He’s incredibly friendly with people, other dogs, and is even lovely around cats. Lucas was overweight and needed to lose several pounds; not too surprising considering how much he loves to eat!

His new parents tell us that things are going great with him! He now goes by Sherlock and they love how super easy he is to walk. He never pulls on-leash nor shows any aggression. He really loves kids and his adopters have young grandchildren who visit occasionally. Sherlock also has a new dog sister, a senior chihuahua named Peggy who’d been adopted from a shelter in Arizona. Sherlock likes to follow his people around and enjoys getting scratches, belly rubs, and loving affection of any kind. His family continue to help him on his journey to lose weight so that he can enjoy many more years with them! A few weeks after Sherlock’s adoption, they adopted another rescue dog and named him Watson.

From Sherlock’s adopters: “We just love him and are so glad he came to us.
