Mandy’s Story:

Mandy was rescued from the Burbank Animal Shelter in July 2021. At age ten, this sweetheart had terribly infected ears, severe dental disease, cloudy eyes, and mild degenerative mitral valve disease. Sadly, Mandy’s ear canals had calcified and she needed total ear ablation surgeries in both ears. This poor, sweet girl had been so neglected.

Cocker spaniels are especially prone to chronic ear infections because of their floppy ears and a larger area of sensitive tissue leading to their ear canal compared to other breeds. Calcification happens after years of infections have transformed the soft and delicate cartilage of the ear canals into a hard, painful, infected mess. During ear ablation surgery, the surgeon removes the diseased and infected ear canal, along with any other abnormal tissue or material found in the dogs ears.

Mandy was in such sad shape that, even after her first ear ablation surgery, her outer ear flap began to turn necrotic and also had to be removed. We think Mandy is just as beautiful without it! She is such a nice dog and we’re so glad she is finally feeling better.

Her loving adopters say that Mandy is doing great and is fitting right in with them. We just love a happy ending, don’t you?!
