WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE, GIZMO!

NAM-EE (nicknamed GIZMO) is a super-sweet, young, male - possibly a Spaniel/Cocker/Cavalier mix - Freedom Flyer from South Korea, He was rescued from a pet store that had closed, with many dogs abandoned and left to starve. A small group called Dasom, which works to save small-breed dogs, was able to rescue some of them. Dasom got in touch with the Cocker Moms, our rescue partners in South Korea, and they reached out to Camp Cocker Rescue and asked us to take him in.

Gizmo is a nice little boy, shy but becoming a little less shy since his rescue. Once he warms up a little, he’s a happy tail-wagger! He is estimated to be between 2-5 years old and weighs only 15 pounds - making him a good candidate for air travel as he will fit underneath an airline seat.

Gizmo’s new foster mom has a LOT to say about him, so find a comfortable chair and a cup of tea, and settle in for a very sweet read!

“Gizmo is a very sweet boy! He's curious about everything and will not hesitate to steal a piece of mail off the table or a french fry off your plate. He shadows me everywhere I go, but does great when left alone (I've watched him on the doggy cam when I'm out and he shows no signs of separation anxiety). He is very quiet, never barks, just loves lying in his bed and chewing on toys. When he's excited he does zoomies up and down the hallway and spins in circles, which is hilarious. He does get mouthy when he's playing or overstimulated, which could be a problem with small children.

”He absolutely loves getting attention, pets, and curling up in my lap. He gets along beautifully with my dog, as well as my cat! He happily leaps right into his crate at night and is quiet until I let him out in the morning. He eats well (he loves food) and is improving on leash.

”This timid boy was originally too scared to go outside and would freeze up refusing to walk on the leash or to use the stairs. He has now mastered the stairs and walks well on a leash as long as we are in familiar territory. He is still fearful in new places and will freeze up or try to wriggle out of his harness (he's definitely a flight risk), but he likes meeting new people and other dogs when he feels safe. Gizmo doesn't like loud noises, like construction work, cars passing by or the bangs of trucks on the nearby freeway; however, he has no fear of the vacuum!

”Gizmo wears belly bands indoors because he is not yet house-trained. He does use potty pads as long as there aren't any rugs or carpet accessible, as he'd prefer to potty on those, but is also good about pottying outside when we go out. He has started to go to the door when he needs to potty.

”He is also adorable (I love his freckles and amazing underbite) and likes to wag his tail! He really enjoys being in front of the warm fireplace when it's lit or "helping" in the kitchen when I'm cooking. I believe he would do best in a quiet household with a yard for him to comfortably run around in, in addition to daily walks in a quiet neighborhood. I don't see him ever being a dog who likes to hike or go out to eat with his people. He's too timid. He also gets car sick and needs to be crated while in the car to prevent motion sickness.

”Gizmo likes to play with other dogs, but can be easily overwhelmed, so while having another more confident dog in the home might benefit him, I'm not sure it's entirely necessary. He's usually more interested in me than in my dog, but I do think he'd enjoy having a companion dog who would play and cuddle up with him.”
