Nugget’s Story:

Adorable little Nugget was rescued from the Bakersfield animal shelter in July 2021 after he’d been picked up as a stray. Nugget had a femoral fracture so we rushed him straight to a board certified surgeon to try to save his leg. We can’t know for sure, but we think he may have been hit by a car. The surgeon and her team were in surgery for more than five hours, very carefully cutting bone where it shouldn't be and trying to line the remaining bones back into place. Nugget now has four pins in his leg, and after several weeks of crate rest, began working hard at physical therapy. He has the cutest face and is super sweet and loving. At around 6 months of age, he is also very playful!

Nugget brings so much joy into his mama’s life. He is an affectionate boy who loves to snuggle and give kisses. He is always making his mom laugh and she just loves watching him do his thing. He likes to lay by her feet while she works and enjoys playing with his (many) toys. His family call him “Mayor Nugget” because he hosts a daily parade with his toys for all of his loyal human constituents. This funny little dachshund mix has a powerful sniffer and is always excited to see and smell all he can on their walks together! He really likes meeting new people and dogs, but is sometimes a bit nervous with large dogs until he knows for sure that they’re going to be nice. That’s pretty smart, considering he weighs only ten pounds!

From Nugget’s adopter: “I'm deeply in love with him!”
