Milo’s Story
Rescue Date: November 6, 2024
Origin: Long Beach Shelter
Camp Cocker Rescue JUST rescued a hit-by-car cocker spaniel from the Long Beach Animal Shelter. Animal control was called five days ago with reports of a dog running on the freeway. By the time they arrived he had already been hit by a car.
He has multiple fractures, is in a lot of pain. We just checked him into a 24/7 emergency hospital, where he will get the works. We spoke to the vet that will be doing his surgery and after diagnostics are done, the hope is for Milo to get surgery tonight.
11/8/24 UPDATE: Milo had surgery two nights ago and it went well. His tibia was realigned and put back into place with an implant plate and pins. His pelvic breaks need restricted activity to heal. He did end up needing an EKG prior to surgery and was diagnosed with mitral valve disease (common in cockers). He is starting on heart medication and will be getting a cardiologist recheck in six months.
12/6/24 UPDATE: Milo’s recovery with post-op care and physical therapy has been going very well!
