Libby

Libby is the sweetest girl you could ever meet.

She loves people and is very people-oriented. She enjoys the company of other dogs, but she does better with females. She doesn’t like when male dogs sniff her backside—which is very understandable given how many puppies she’s had over the years.

She shows very mild and manageable resource guarding around food, but only toward male dogs. For example, she has never shown this behavior with Violet, Ladybelle, or Nikki. When she does guard, she doesn’t give much warning; she’ll quickly jump on Hershey, pin him down, and grab his neck—but she has never broken the skin.

Outside of those moments, she is fine sharing space with him—she can take treats right next to him, sleep beside him, and do everything else peacefully. Recently, she only guarded the dishwasher while Hershey was “helping clean up dishes.”

Her facial expressions are sometimes hard to read, but I’ve learned her signals and can anticipate when she might react to Hershey. By being proactive, I’ve been able to prevent any issues.

She enjoys playing with toys a little bit, especially if you’re watching her, but she mostly prefers to roll over and nap beside you. She doesn’t have separation anxiety when left home alone.

She is potty trained, but she does need to go out every 3–4 hours. She will use pee pads indoors, though occasionally she may try to pee on a rug. Taking her outside as soon as she wakes up from a nap works well. If you’re away for a few hours, she can also wear a diaper.

She is not fearful of strangers, but because her eyesight isn’t great, she may need to sniff a person first so she isn’t startled. Once she does, she immediately rolls over and asks for belly rubs! 💕.
