Penelope’s Story

Rescue Date: January 15, 2026

Origin: Orange County Shelter

PENELOPE IS PENDING ADOPTION!!

Penelope is a very sweet Cocker Spaniel, rescued from the Orange County shelter as a stray. With significant eye issues, and painful eyes, she was determined to be blind. She’s had double eye enucleation, and is now feeling so much better!

June update on Penelope…

If you are looking for a confident, affectionate, outgoing lap dog, then Penelope is just the girl for you! While she likes the companionship of other dogs, people are what really make her day.

Every evening, she listens to the tv from the comfort of her foster mom’s lap before going outside for a potty break and then heading to bed. She sleeps in her crate with one of her favorite toys.

She will whimper in the morning to let you know she needs to potty. If she gives you some snorts and little barks though, that means she wants you to get up to give her attention. She makes all sorts of sounds to communicate her mood and needs. She isn’t an avid barker though, meaning shared walls would be fine.

She would love a fenced yard with some grass for sniffing. She also likes short walks once she gets to know you to explore the smells. She loves playing with toys, yet she is not interested in playing with other dogs.

She would do well as either the only dog in the house with someone home frequently (she can go 6 hours without an accident, and can sleep the whole nigh through)  or with a companion dog that is also mellow energy. Since she can’t see, a high energy dog in the home would make her uncomfortable as she may get bumped accidentally.

Likes: squeaky toys; enrichment games, chew bones, blankets to snuggle in, ice cubes

Dislikes: being hugged; the loud noise from the vacuum; sharing her foster mom’s lap.
