Nicole, originally from Mongolia, joined Cocker Friends Korea in March 2026 – to facilitate her anticpated arrival in America in September 2026 (or later).

Nicole’s Medical Issues

Nicole has some right kidney atrophy, but bloodwork remains within normal range. Note that kidney function may be more vulnerable than average.

She’s also been diagnosed with liver disease, but with some encouraging follow-up bloodwork:

Good news:
* Her red blood cell count (hematocrit) has improved to 45%, which is now within the normal range.
* Her white blood cell count and platelet count are also normal.

Regarding her liver values:
* ALT has decreased slightly compared to last month’s results, but it remains approximately twice the upper limit of normal.
* ALKP has increased slightly, but the veterinarian is not concerned at this point, as it is only mildly elevated. He explained that ALKP generally becomes more concerning when it reaches approximately 4–5 times the normal range.

The veterinarian also noted that:
* Albumin (a liver function protein) remains within the normal range, which is reassuring and suggests that Nicole’s liver function is still being well maintained.
* At this time, no urgent diagnostics are recommended.

The current plan is to repeat bloodwork in approximately two months and continue monitoring her liver enzymes.

If her liver values continue to increase over time, the next recommended steps would be a liver biopsy and copper storage disease evaluation to determine the underlying cause.

Overall, the veterinarian feels that this is not an emergency, and Nicole is doing well clinically. We will continue monitoring her closely and keep everyone updated. ❤️🐾

Nicole’s Personality & Daily Life

1. Does Nicole like people?

Nicole absolutely loves people. She especially enjoys gentle head scratches and neck rubs.

She does need a little time to build trust before she’s comfortable with someone touching sensitive areas like her paws or belly. If a stranger reaches for those areas too quickly, she may growl to communicate that she’s uncomfortable. Once she trusts you, she’ll happily roll over for belly rubs.

2. How is she with other dogs?

Nicole can be uncomfortable when unfamiliar dogs approach her closely, especially on walks. She may growl if she notices another dog, even from a distance.

Interestingly, in off-leash environments with several dogs, she tends to ignore them rather than interact.

She also has a strong prey drive toward cats, so we do not recommend a home with cats.

3. How does she do when left alone?

Nicole does very well on her own.

She may whine briefly when she sees her person getting ready to leave, but she settles quickly. While alone, she is quiet, relaxed, and usually spends her time sleeping.

4. Does she enjoy walks?

She loves going for walks!

During her foster stay, she enjoyed three walks a day. She walks nicely on a leash and naturally matches her handler’s pace, making her a very pleasant walking companion.

5. Is she house-trained?

Nicole is almost completely potty trained outdoors.

During the four months in foster care, she only had two indoor accidents at the very beginning. Since then, she has consistently gone potty outside during her walks.

6. Favorite toys or games?

She absolutely loves balls!

She also enjoys plush toys, but balls are definitely her favorite. If she’s awake, there’s a good chance she’s carrying one around. Fetch is one of her favorite activities.

7. Is she afraid of anything?

Nicole doesn’t like sudden handling, such as being picked up unexpectedly or touched without warning.

She still needs a little time to build trust, so it’s best to let her approach at her own pace and allow the relationship to develop naturally.

8. How does she do with a crate?

Nicole is comfortable using a crate or kennel.

It’s not her favorite place, but with treats and positive reinforcement, she settles in without difficulty.

9. How is she for grooming and veterinary care?

Nicole finds veterinary exams and ear cleaning very stressful and may try to bite if she feels frightened or restrained. Extra care and proper handling are important during these situations.

Baths and having her paws washed after walks, however, are no problem. She stays calm and cooperative.

10. Has she ever bitten or shown guarding behavior?

If Nicole feels uncomfortable, she may react defensively.

The important thing is that she gives very clear warnings first by growling. She uses her growl to communicate that she’s uncomfortable rather than biting without warning. Respecting her signals and giving her space prevents most situations from escalating.

She will do best with someone who understands dog body language and is willing to build trust patiently.

11. How is her appetite?

Nicole has a great appetite and enjoys both kibble and treats. She even loves vegetables like carrots.

Because she has liver disease, she is currently on a carefully managed diet and does not eat meat or high-protein foods. Her adopter should continue working with a veterinarian to maintain the appropriate diet.

12. Energy level

Nicole enjoys playtime and can be playful and energetic, but once she’s had fun, she’s happy to relax.

She’s very well-mannered in the house, doesn’t get into things, and settles easily. If she’s told “no,” she accepts it calmly instead of insisting.

13. What makes Nicole special?

Nicole loves making eye contact and connecting with her people. Once she trusts someone, she forms a deep, loyal bond.

She has wonderful house manners—she doesn’t destroy things, raid the trash, or create trouble around the house. She eats well, sleeps well, enjoys her walks and playtime, and has reliable potty habits.

Nicole simply needs someone who will respect her boundaries, listen to her communication, and let trust grow at her own pace. In return, she’ll become an incredibly loving and devoted companion. ❤️🐾
