Thumper’s Story

Rescue Date: February 11, 2026

Origin: Riverside County Animal Shelter

Meet Thumper, an adorable low-rider Spaniel mix who is now thriving in his foster home with two furry foster-siblings.

Thumper is dog-friendly, and enjoys the company of his dog siblings, but he’s mostly focused on people – he’s very people-friendly! He’s affectionate, snuggly, and reaches out for belly rubs. If you are looking for a lapdog, Thumper is your guy. At night, he runs up to bed looking forward to his bedtime treat. He is a great sleeper, slow to roll out of bed in the morning, and loves his morning cuddles.

He’s a very chill dog, but he gets super excited when he goes for walks, his favorite thing to do!  He has zero interest in toys, is submissive, but he’s not shy or timid. Grooming & bathing are also an easy task with him. He is scared of thunder and fireworks and will want to be by your side while it’s happening.

Thumper LOVES his walks, and is always waiting for his next opportunity to get out with his foster mom for an outing. When he gets excited (as he always does on his walks) his increased breath sounds are exaggerated by his elongated soft palate, but that doesn’t slow him down!

Thumper’s love for the outdoors has him always trying to slip through doors/gates to get started on his beloved walks, so Thumper should be in a home with adults who can monitor doorways and gates and prevent his escape.

Thumper is generally super quite in the house and doesn’t normally bark at outside noises, knocks on the door, or doorbells, but he can be verbal with “woo-woo-woo”s when his housemates start to bark. When his foster Mom leaves the house, he pretty much sleeps by the door she left through until she returns. He also has Thumper-specific “squeals of delight” for the first few minutes when he goes outside for walks, or when his foster Mom comes home! Thus, homes with adjoining walls are not advised for Thumper, and he definitely needs a secure fenced back yard. He has a strong prey drive and will try his best to keep the yard free of squirrels!

Thumper may need belly bands in the beginning to contain marking as he adjusts to his new furever home, but he is currently mostly potty-trained. His pet-sitters agree that if they were looking for a dog, Thumper would be the one!
