WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE, HAPPY!

HAPPY is a male Cocker Spaniel Freedom Flyer from South Korea. Happy is part of a special group of 3 Cocker Spaniels that are flying into SEATTLE from South Korea on May 3, 2024. All three were rescued by our international rescue partners from South Korea, known as the COCKER MOMS, providing our Pacific Northwest followers a more convenient opportunity to adopt a Camp Cocker dog!

Here’s what the Cocker Moms have shared about Happy:

Happy was rescued from the Pyeong Teak shelter, which is in the same city as the American Army base. He was very skinny and had diarrhea, but all of his tests were negative. After his rescue, he was neutered and had his teeth cleaned.

From what we know so far, Happy is very energetic and fun. He’s very puppy-like & playful and gets along well with other dogs. He doesn’t bark a lot, and he knows “sit” and “paw” already.

It appears that he does not like to have his rear end touched or wiped. His mouth will come back to the handler’s hand, but no biting. A firm “No” and he’s back to acting like a puppy again!

Happy’s Seattle foster family tells us:

- Happy hasn't barked at all!

- He is very treat motivated. Will try to take it out of your hand, but does respond to "off."

- Incredibly smart, and is learning impulse control.

- Coexists with our dog, but does not engage. Would be fine with or without another dog.

- Not afraid of loud noises, like the vacuum, garbage truck, etc.

- Cuddly on his own terms. Likes to cuddle up against your legs.

- Is sensitive to handling in certain ways. A bit sassy at the vet initially, but better once they fed him treats.

- Due to his handling sensitivities (we’re still getting to know him) Happy should be in an adults-only home.

- Still working on potty training. Consistently poops outside, but his belly band does get wet a couple of times a day, despite being taken out often.

- Loves to play ball. Some very minor guarding of it, but hard to tell if he's just play-growling.

- Knows sit, paw, and wait.

- Can be challenging in the car. Sometimes he's good, other times he's like a whirling dervish.

- Challenging to walk currently. Pulls very hard for a 16-pound dog!

- The Seattle veterinarian estimates* Happy to be 2-3 years old. He weighs 16 pounds.

*Please note that any age provided is only an estimate, based on veterinary examination.
