WELCOME TO CAMP COCKER RESCUE MURPHY!

MURPHY is a sweet energetic young Cocker mix, rescued from the Apple Valley Animal Shelter.

Murphy is estimated* to be 2-3 years old, and at 27 pounds he is the perfect weight for his body size! Notable is that he has cherry eye, and we’ve scheduled him for cherry eye surgery on Tuesday, May 9.

He’s a curious, energetic, happy, boy - and that long tail never stops wagging!

His foster parents have this to say about Murphy::

Murphy continues to be a bright ball of sunshine. He now will let us know he needs to go outside by barking at us and sitting at our feet. When we leave the house, he will settle down after 2 to 5 minutes. Barking usually only happens for about a minute tops.

He is now curious about his crate but still does not like it. He will often pull out the bed to lay on it outside of the crate. At night he would much rather sleep with the cat on the couch or dog bed or snuggled up next to you on the bed. After the first night being in a new environment he went to sleep easily.

He has a huge fascination with the shower and tub. It seems like he isn’t afraid of water at all and may potentially enjoy places like the beach or lake.

He loves to run at the dog park. He will either just run on his own or will chase a toy or fellow dog. He does very well with dogs of all sizes and genders. He does like attention. He has not met a person he does not like and if you give him pets, he will gladly sit and receive them. He also loves soft squeaker toys, mostly so he can chew them, but it does take time for him to tear them apart.

When going on walks he does not like to have the harness put on him, however, once it is on, he is perfectly fine. The trick is to clip his leash to his collar and then once the harness is on clip the leash to his harness. He does very well on walks. If you are a runner, he will be the best companion because he will love to run beside you.

Lastly, he is highly food and praise motivated. We are currently teaching him not to beg for food or bark when we eat. Instead, we give him praise when he doesn’t bark. He will now be interested in the food for a few minutes before laying down beside the table. He is very quick to adapt to his new settings and learn new routines. He is also not much of an alpha dog which will go well if there is another dog in the household as he will know how to give them their space. He just craves love and attention.
