WE’VE GOT YOU, BERTHA! ❤️

BERTHA was rescued on a late Wednesday afternoon, August 23, from the Los Angeles North Central Animal Shelter. She was very sick - lethargic, unable to walk, not eating, and vomiting!

We received the urgent Good Samaritan call for rescue intervention for a 5-year-old* tri-color English Bulldog - and were on our way! We picked up Bertha from the shelter, and took her directly to our vet, with a veterinary surgeon arranged to be on standby for her arrival.

Bertha was discovered to have a very large tumor which was removed and sent out for biopsy. Her uterus was also removed. She was placed on post-op IV fluids that included strong antibiotics, fluids, anti-nausea meds, and pain meds, and within 24 hours this sweet girl was already showing signs of dramatic improvement!

On 9/2/23 Bertha’s biopsy came back as positive for cancer. Though this is not the news we were hoping for, we do know that the surgeon was able to get clean margins - and subsequent examination of lymph nodes, a chest xray, and ultrasound showed no evidence of cancer spread.

Bertha is now ready to find her furever home!

Bertha’s foster had this to say about her:

➡️ “Bertha is SUPER sweet!!! She’s shown no signs of aggression. She is good with children and babies. She met my dog (small Shih Tzu mix) and showed no aggression. Bertha is potty trained. I put out a pee pad and she urinates and poops on there. She ate the wet food that I gave her this morning, and was in love with it! She is a good dog!”

Bertha, the beautiful tri-color English Bulldog, is being cared for in the Los Angeles area.
